CP Involvment

The relationship between local and state government conflicts for my CP can and will vary because of the various interactions among local and state government. For example, if a local community in California is against the recent re-evaluation of water distribution in the central valley but the state is saying it's a necessity to save water and promote new methods of watering the crops in the central valley; this is an example of a conflicting issue that my CP could potententially get caught up in. The reason my CP would be interested is because if the current watering methods affect those who live in the local community and are a direct violation of human rights as well as environmental rights-then there is a case to be dealt with. My CP would find a solution to resolve the conflict with the local and state government, and if not a solution, research to support the affected parties.

Blog Topic #4, 5, and 6

Hey fellow bloggers or readers!

So tonight I will be writing about my community engagement project and a little about my community partner. I am interning with the Earth Law Center in the east bay. My community partners goal is research instances where human and environmental rights violations occurred. The stance taken on public campaigns are focused on improving the relations between human and environmental interaction. For example, the oil pipeline (the keystone XL) that is supposed to begin in Alberta and into the U.S. Why is this such a hot topic at the moment? This is due to the fact that it will drive the price of gas significantly lower compared to the average $4.50 per gallon. But not only will this affect  the environment around the designated building site, but it will also affect those who live in the communities the proposed pipeline will be going though. This is an example, not actuality, of what kind of campaign my community partner takes action for. The goal is to take action and campaign against these violations against environmental and human rights.

Blog #5

I attended class and worked on developing my community engagement project and setting up a timeline.

Blog #6:
Yes, my CP has created a map of the current violations and a way of combatting the issues; well establishing a time line. Problems I expect to encounter are campaigning for advocacy and having the UN understand take a stance to protect human a environmental rights!
